Munyalisa Women Empowerment Initiative (MUWEI): A Story of Growth and Hope
Our Journey, Our Impact
Origins & Early Work
MUWEI’s journey began in 2019 as a small community initiative aimed at addressing the pressing challenges faced by women, children, and disaster-affected individuals in Uganda’s Elgon region. These marginalized groups often found themselves excluded from critical decisions and development programs, leaving them vulnerable and underserved.
Recognizing this gap, our founding volunteers and community leaders were compelled to act, focusing first on community mobilisation, grassroots trainings, and local advocacy — work that laid the foundations for the organisation that MUWEI is today.
Registration & Partnerships
In 2025, MUWEI formalized its work by registering as an organization — a milestone that enabled stronger governance, sustainable funding opportunities, and deeper partnerships. From our headquarters in Mbale City we established transparent policies and collaborated with organizations such as the Uganda Red Cross Society and the Mbale Network of Young People Living with HIV to extend our reach and impact.
Programs & Impact
Our journey has been one of growth, resilience, and unwavering commitment. What began as modest community projects has grown into transformative programs that have empowered roughly 3,000 women and youth.
MUWEI provides tailored trainings in sustainable farming, business development, financial literacy, and vocational skills — practical support that unlocks economic opportunities and builds agency.
MUWEI’s story is rooted in teamwork, dedication, and an unshakable vision for a brighter future. Every program we implement and every life we touch brings us closer to building inclusive, thriving communities where women and youth lead the way in sustainable development.
