MUWEI-supported GBV screening and children’s activities during Mbale District International Women's Day, March 28, 2025.

On 28th March 2025, MUWEI actively participated in Mbale District's International Women's Day celebrations. The team supported the event through financial and technical contributions, set up a GBV screening and referral point, and engaged community members on women's rights. Local leaders, youth, and women groups attended, enhancing the dialogue on gender equality and protection.

Results & lessons

  • MUWEI conducted GBV screenings for 96 women; 38.5% reported some form of violence in the past year (psychological 45.9%, sexual 24.3%, physical 21.6%, emotional 8.1%).
  • Distributed over 200 IEC materials on GBV prevention and women’s empowerment.
  • Challenges: heavy rains delayed set-up and limited resources to meet demand.
  • Recommendations: expand service space, increase pre-event sensitization via radio and schools, and mobilize funds for follow-up.
